Accelerator Driven Energy

An Enormous Leap, On An Atomic Scale

Global Energy Crisis

A move to clean energy is critical to curbing global emissions, but it has created a supply crisis. Traditional electricity backbones (coal, gas, nuclear) are being retired faster than new clean energy can be produced.

A lack of supply combined with growing demand is leading to outages, high prices and concerns about the future. It has a big impact on global supply and critical industries.

Nuclear is seeing a renaissance and looks promising, but it faces obstacles of legislation, safety and security, high upfront investment and long timelines.

Aurelia Lumina has developed an exciting new solution to the problem of global energy supply that we believe changes the equation.

Aurelia SMR

Aurelia Lumina has developed an accelerator driven SMR (Small Modular Reactor). It is a self-sustaining clean energy generator that delivers the consistency of traditional energy without the variability.

Each unit is the size of a 40 ft container, lasts around 60 years, and generates enough energy to power the equivalent of 1000 homes. The SMR's can power industrial facilities, be chained together to create decentralised grids, or plug into existing grids.

The Science

Our units work by consuming depleted nuclear waste as fuel using a particle accelerator. This is a new application of a technology used in the 1960's but with a number of clever innovations which turn a scientific curiosity into a viable new energy source, protected by an extensive intellectual property portfolio.

Renewable energy partnerships

Traditional renewable energy, such as wind and solar power, are variable and dependent on weather conditions. Our solution provides a green and environmentally friendly way of providing a stable base load for these systems to reduce (if not eliminate) the variability that is experienced. Our units are easily able to augment wind and solar farms and reduce both the cost, footprint, and waste factors.

Case Study

Aurelia has signed a supply agreement with a South African renewable energy consortium on a 20-year PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) starting with a 1 GW wind farm.

Aurelia will generate 40% of the nameplate capacity on a power-lease program to increase power production reliability and halve the needed installation capacity to supply a consistent 800 MW to the South African energy grid.

No carbon emissions

The Aurelia Lumina solution delivers the benefits of traditional energy grids, but in a green, clean and decentralised way.

  • Environmentally friendly - can be hidden below ground
  • No waste produced during the lifecycle (240 years)
  • Long-burn atomic waste recycling.
  • Air-lift capable, maintenance-free.

We know that wind farm and solar waste represents a significant environmental problem. Aurelia’s ADE system significantly reduces the carbon footprint of conventional energy and also renewable energy waste issues. ADE presents a reliable and waste-net-neutral option for renewable projects and our partnerships with these projects help them to reduce waste.

Business model

Aurelia Lumina is the license holder for our designs. We operate an EPC model (Engineer, Procure, Construct) where we work with regional manufacturing and distribution partners to serve local markets. Our partners deply our SMRs on power-lease contracts. We maintain and support the units as well as providing backup.

Our pricing is based on current global electricity costs which vary from country to country. Based on this pricing, our partners are able to fully recover the unit's build costs in 12 to 18 months. Our maintenance costs are negligible and the only other costs are decommissioning and end of life.

This enables Aurelia Lumina to offer a very attractive return to our partners, investors and shareholders. We currently have an established parnership with a South African distributor and are in the process of building our first factory.
